About Oscar Peters: A Journey in Education

Hi, I am Oscar Peters, a dedicated educator with over 19 years of experience in elementary and middle school education. My roots in a family with limited formal education have instilled in me a deep appreciation for the transformative power of a robust educational foundation.

My Story

My teaching journey began in 2004 at a Christian private school, where I initially worked in elementary school. Over the following years, I transitioned between elementary and middle school, teaching German, Spanish, and English Language Arts, and other subjects. In 2010, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education with a specialization in Mathematics. Subsequently, I assumed the role of head principal in 2013, a position I hold until today. Additionally, I hold a Master of Science degree in Education from Walden University.

However, beyond the academic accolades and achievements, the most profound lessons shaping my identity as an educator stem from hands-on experiences in both the classroom and administrative office. While college provided more than a foundational understanding, the complexities of the field were truly unveiled through trial and error, and unwavering dedication.

I often share the mantra, "Replication over one’s actions is the key to growth," embodying this principle for my fellow educators, students, and parents.

Navigating Burnout: A Turning Point

In 2009, faced with the challenges of maintaining a healthy classroom dynamic, I encountered a pivotal moment in my teaching career. A lack of management skills, a non-positive environment, and other factors led to challenges in my classroom. Overreliance on punishment and correction proved to be ineffective.

Realizing the need for refined management skills, I made a strategic decision and taught at a different school for three years. This period marked a significant shift in my teaching practices. I learned firsthand the impact of a positive environment and strong classroom management on student outcomes, leaving burnout behind.

Lifelong Learner and Family Man

Beyond my roles as a full-time teacher and principal, I am a devoted husband and a caring father to three young boys.

I consider myself a "forever learner" who embraces stepping out of his comfort zone. Not every experience in education has been a walk in the park, but each challenge has contributed to my evolution as an educator with a passionate commitment to becoming an inspiring leader every day.

My diverse interests span reading, music, playing and teaching piano, experimenting with Excel formulas, writing, online marketing, and yes, gardening—I even boast a green thumb!
